You have probably been told it is just weight. Just fluid. Just something to live with. It isn't. Eva Tutic CLT at TheraFlow Health provides specialized, clinically informed care for lipedema, lymphedema, and lipolymphedema — for patients who deserve to finally be seen. Serving Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, and all of Hampton Roads.
Book a ConsultationOfficial estimates suggest lipedema affects around 11% of women — but that number is almost certainly far too low. Because lipedema is so frequently misdiagnosed as obesity, and because so many women are too embarrassed to report their symptoms or have simply stopped seeking answers, it goes unreported and uncounted. The true prevalence may be closer to 20% or higher. What we know for certain: it is vastly underdiagnosed, widely misunderstood, and the women living with it deserve far better than they have been getting.
Lymphedema patients face a different version of the same problem. A swollen limb, a confusing diagnosis, and discharge instructions that do not explain what to actually do next. Many are never referred to a Certified Lymphedema Therapist at all.
Lipedema is a chronic condition in which fat accumulates disproportionately in the legs, hips, and sometimes arms — and does not respond to diet or exercise. It is painful to touch, bruises easily, and worsens over time without proper management.
It is not a lifestyle problem. It is not obesity. It is a recognized medical condition that affects an estimated 1 in 9 women worldwide — and most of them do not know they have it.
Stage 1 — Smooth skin surface, enlarged and nodular subcutaneous fat
Stage 2 — Uneven skin, more pronounced nodularity, indentations
Stage 3 — Large lobes of skin and fat, significant deformity
Lipolymphedema — Stage 3 with secondary lymphatic involvement
No physician referral required for initial consultation.
Lymphedema occurs when the lymphatic system is damaged or insufficient, causing fluid to accumulate in tissues — most often in an arm or leg. It can be primary (congenital) or secondary (caused by cancer treatment, surgery, infection, or trauma).
It is a lifelong condition — but it is manageable. With Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT) and proper education, most patients can significantly reduce their swelling, prevent progression, and live well.

Physician referral welcomed. No referral required for initial consultation.
As lipedema progresses, the mechanical burden on the lymphatic system can cause a secondary lymphatic component to develop — a condition called lipolymphedema. This is common in Stage 3 lipedema and requires a combined treatment approach addressing both conditions simultaneously. Eva Tutic CLT is experienced in treating lipolymphedema and will develop an individualized plan based on your specific clinical presentation.
Eva Tutic is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) trained through ACOLS — the Academy of Lymphatic Studies, one of the most respected lymphatic therapy training institutions in the country. Her CLT credential means she has completed rigorous clinical training in the anatomy, physiology, and treatment of both lipedema and lymphedema.
She has sat with patients who have spent years being dismissed. She has watched women cry with relief when someone finally explained what was happening in their bodies. She understands the diagnostic journey — the dead ends, the wrong answers, the exhausting search for a provider who takes this seriously.
That is not how it goes at TheraFlow Health.
"Lipedema patients arrive here after years of being failed by a system that did not have language for what they were experiencing. I do. And I will not rush you, minimize you, or treat your body like a problem to solve. You deserve care that is as patient and precise as the condition requires."
— Eva Tutic CLT CPST LMT
Every patient is different. Every treatment plan is built around your specific presentation, stage, and goals — not a protocol off a shelf.
We start with a thorough conversation and clinical assessment. Eva will review your history, assess your tissue presentation, take baseline measurements, and discuss your goals. No rushing. No guessing.
Based on your assessment, Eva will develop a plan that may include specialized lymphatic massage (MLD), CDT, compression bandaging, garment fitting, skin care, and home management education. Frequency and duration are determined by your clinical response.
Progress is tracked with objective measurements at each session. Your plan adjusts as your body responds. The goal is always reduction, stabilization, and the best possible quality of life — not just maintenance.

Yes. Manual Lymphatic Drainage — a specialized form of lymphatic massage — is one of the most evidence-supported conservative treatments for lipedema. It targets the secondary lymphatic component of the condition, reducing swelling, relieving the characteristic pain and heaviness, and improving tissue quality over time. It does not remove the fat tissue of lipedema, but it meaningfully improves symptoms and quality of life. Combined with medical-grade compression, it is the foundation of conservative lipedema management.
Yes. TheraFlow Health accepts referrals from physicians, vascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, OB/GYN providers, and primary care physicians across Hampton Roads for lipedema and lymphedema management. Eva Tutic CLT provides Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), individualized MLD protocols, compression garment fitting and written recommendations, and progress documentation that can be returned to your office. Referral forms are available on the Medical Professionals page.
Treatment frequency varies based on lipedema stage, symptom severity, and individual response. Many patients begin with weekly or twice-weekly sessions during the intensive phase of CDT, then transition to maintenance care every 2–4 weeks. Eva Tutic will establish a personalized plan at your initial consultation based on your clinical presentation and goals — not a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Lipolymphedema occurs when advanced lipedema — typically Stage 3 — develops a secondary lymphatic component, meaning the lymphatic system is now also compromised. It requires a combined treatment approach addressing both conditions simultaneously. Eva Tutic CLT at TheraFlow Health is experienced in treating lipolymphedema using CDT, MLD, and individualized compression management. Serving patients across Hampton Roads including Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, and Portsmouth.
Insurance coverage for lipedema treatment varies significantly by plan. TheraFlow Health is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. However, many patients use HSA or FSA funds for sessions. Compression garments prescribed for lipedema may be covered under some plans with a written medical recommendation — Eva Tutic provides these letters as part of the compression fitting service. Patients are encouraged to check with their individual insurance provider regarding out-of-network reimbursement.
